Yoga AND Pranayama

The first man to introduce us to breath-held Yoga and in particular to apnea Pranayama was the great Jacques Mayol, who learnt the techniques of this millenary discipline from his mother. Mayol started the modern freediving, freediving for all. Mayol understood that Yoga and Freediving are only apparently two different practices and that they are actually very similar: in particular Pranayama, which to simplify means “control of one’s energy”, has the ultimate goal of breath holding exactly like freediving. Mayol understood that the purpose of Yoga and Pranayama meant  for freediving doesn’t merely reside in the technique (very valuable indeed) but in the mental attitude that one can achieve throughout these techniques: Yoga can be interpreted as a way to achieve knowledge and control of the act of breathing up to its consequent halt. A steady practice of Asana and Pranayama allows you to improve your physical and breathing performances not to mention your capacity of concentration. The benefits on the respiratory system, deriving from Yoga practice, are multiple: with Yoga you’ll explore new breathing challenges. A step by step exercising and a correct mental attitude will lead to a much improved respiratory function in terms of a better elasticity of the muscles involved and a better breathing fluidity, thus improving your structural posture and blood flow circulation, achieving a greater efficiency of gaseous exchanges and finally optimizing your oxygen entry.

HATA YOGA

BREATHING AND RELAXATION TECHNIQUES

Hatha Yoga lessons are open to everyone; they take place in the Diving Centre classroom where we recreate the right ambience necessary for Yoga practice. During the summer it’s possible to attend the lessons on the shore early in the morning and at sunset.

Lessons can be:

 

• Individual

• In couples

• In small groups (max 5 people)

 

We even equip people who live far away from Lerici with video conference lessons! We are available to give lessons in private and social clubs and in other diving centres too.

 

These lessons are specifically planned for divers, breath-held freedivers and swimmers, complying with the specific requirements needed for these water related practices. They take place in the Diving Centre classroom where we recreate the ambience suitable for the Yoga discipline. During the summer it’s possible to carry out lessons before freediving sessions.
These lessons can be:
